As noted by [livejournal.com profile] amandapillar, Voices has received an overall positive review at Dark Wolf's Fantasy Reviews. I didn't get much of a mention, compared to a few other stories, but still...

“Bedbugs” by Martin Livings – Allison will discover in a strange way the destiny of one of her room’s previous guest. It is an interesting story, with two physical abuses that will superpose in a new disturbing image.

Yay! :)

I've been a little lax in posting lately, mainly because my new job has been so insane and intense. However, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it now, so I'll take this opportunity to take a deep breath, relax, and post about a few things.

Iron Man

I finally saw Iron man on DVD last wekend. It was... alright. It didn't excite my imagination the way I expected it to. I think [livejournal.com profile] benpeek was right, in that it was simply remarkably unambitious. Maybe the next one will be better. But I won't hold my breath. Glad I only spent 95c to watch it (thanks, Video Ezy voucher!).

Voices

I got my contributor's copy of Voices in the mail, thanks [livejournal.com profile] amandapillar and [livejournal.com profile] markdeniz! And it's purdy! I can't wait to read it... if I ever have time again!

Dexter

We're late into this, mainly because Izz took a lot of convincing to watch it, but once she did, she was hooked. We polished off season 1 in a week, and just watched the first episode of season 2. It's good stuff.

Life

Busy. Damn busy.

Work

Busy. Damn busy.

Writing

Still not doing any, and enjoying the break. Though I can't stop my brain noodling with ideas for a something for Grant's Pass, but it's unlikely to eventuate into an actual story, just a vague idea. I'm not going to force it. 'Cos I'm not a writer, remember?

And that's all for now. See you all next week. :)

Cover boy!

Morrigan Books ([livejournal.com profile] morrigan_books) have previewed the cover for their Voices collection here. It's very pretty indeed, but what caught my self-obsessed eye was the fact that my name's on it.

I think this is the first collection to ever mention me on the front cover. How cool is that? :)

Lots of names I don't recognise, some that I do (hi [livejournal.com profile] lie_xin!), and the very welcome news that [livejournal.com profile] roberthood_rss is tying the whole thing together. I am as excited as a very excited person who's got a special reason to be excited!

On another writerly note, I just finished writing up my grant application for The Australia Council, who were kind enough to give me money to help me go to the UK in '06. I'm hoping they'll be kind again, though I know realistically my chances are pretty darn slim. I guess we'll see if lightning can strike twice!

...and [livejournal.com profile] markdeniz and [livejournal.com profile] amandapillar accept "Bedbugs" for the Voices anthology! I love it when a plan comes together! I'm so happy and proud to have cracked this one, especially as the brilliant idea I originally had for it fell into a million pieces at the last minute, necessitating a complete rethink!

A semi-announcement (without names yet!) is here:

Y'know, this almost makes me forgive Mark for the scathing review he gave my story in Shadow Box on ASif. What, you thought I'd forgotten??? ;)
