martinlivings: (Writing Good)

Five word book reviews!

Okay, to keep myself honest, I'm gonna write reviews of every book I read this year. But, to keep myself sane, I'm gonna restrict the reviews to five words or less. :) So let's start with the book I bought at the airport at Heathrow, with the intention of reading it on the plane, but ended up reading it back in Perth instead. I just finished it a few minutes ago.

American Gods, Neil Gaiman
I liked it. A lot.

Next, once I've actually read them: Prismatic by Edwina Grey, followed by Pilo Family Circus by Will Elliot.

Mine:

Got bogged down. Didn't finish.

Other than you seeming to have lots of time to make Wikipedia entries about yourself I haven't seen a post about 'Work: Week 1, The Return'...

How's it going? As much as you predicted? :)

I'm in denial. :)

Pilo Family Circus is on my to-read list just as soon as I find it, look at my wallet, decide I haven't got enough money, walk out of the store, stop in the middle of the street, work out what I can sacrifice, decide Connor's nappy could be changed four times a day rather than five and Aiden can miss the morning tooth-brushing for two months, go back into the store, decide I still can't justify it, walk back out of the store, decide Lee can go without shaving cream and use soap instead, go back into the store, nope, walk back out of the store, decide Lee doesn't need to shave at all and I'll give up chocolate next PMS week, walk back into the store, laugh, nope, cross the chocolate out and decide to give up the Telstra bill, yep, that works and use the thirty dollars that's meant to buy groceries for the week instead. I really really want to read it, I just need to be able to buy it first.

Unless ASif need a reviewer and are willing to send over a copy :)

Yeah, it's frighteningly expensive... I got it from the ECU bookshop here in Joondalup for $28. Ouch! But I owed Will, he bought Carnies (apparently!) so I figured I should return the (more expensive) favour.

As for ASif, I offered to be a horror reviewer when they put out the word, but haven't heard anything yet. But I know [livejournal.com profile] azhure has a copy she's probably willing to lend?

Which, of course, would be the perfect excuse for a catchup at some point in the future. ;)

Hey! Did I get that email? Darn it ... I have a huge horror backlog. And if one of you is willing to review it, I'll get a copy for ASif for the review.

and uh, obviously that was me

[identity profile] martinlivings.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I dunno if you got that email, but here's the comment:

I'm happy as Larry to review some horror stuff, or at least give it a whirl, it's been a while! Lyn would also be good to do it, and she wants a copy of Pilo (I already have one), so she can probably review that one. I might be too personally involved, myself... bloody upstart comes in and steals all the awards in the year I have a novel out, grumble grumble... ;)

Lyn let me know and I'll go about gettnig a review copy.

Martin, I'll email you - it must have gotten lost in my inbox.

I don't know if there's one near you, but my local ABC shop has Pilo on the discount table for $14.95.

Prefer Gaiman's comics, but interesting.
