Hmmm... I'd probably leave it public. If it's private you lose the incentive of public shame :-)

I don't *care* if you post it or not - but I do notice if you haven't met your daily target. If the thought that people are noticing helps you get more words on paper (or screen :-), then I'd do it!

Although I wish lj had some kind of magic system where individuals could filter posts by tag. Then I'd feel less self conscious about coding and hair-length posts, as that way others could take or leave them :)

Agreed on keeping it, but preferably making it a bit smaller, or perhaps putting it behind a cut?
