So, I'm attempting to complete one of my writerly tasks for the week. No, not the one where I actually do some writing, the other one, the easier one... or so I thought. Submit one story to an overseas market. Piece of cake, I thought. I looked at my overseas wishlist, checked the web addresses, and sallied forth.

An hour later, I'm back, thwarted at each turn. In most cases, I simply don't have an appropriate story for the market, but even those ones that I DID have a story worth sending them, I couldn't.

Why? Because they don't accept electronic submissions.

Now, I understand the logic behind it. Electronic submissions are an invitation to mediocrity, while snail-mail forces the author to have some commitment, some discernment. After all, if it's going to cost a small fortune to send, plus the hassle of printing and posting, getting a SASE, etc, then they're not going to send any bottom-drawer dross. But for international submissions, the post isn't exactly what you'd call convenient. Especially when you work for most of the hours that the post office is open for in the first place.

So, I'm stymied for the moment. There are a few I have to check further, but the proxies at my work are denying me access to the Ralan web site, claiming it's a porn site. WTF???
