It's finally done. "Heart of Ice" has been tidied up and sent to the editors of Haunted Legends. I'm really not sure it's what they're looking for, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see! if they do accept it (and, let's face it, the chances of that are vanishingly small), believe it or not, it'll be my first truly "professional" sale in a career lasting nearly twenty years thus far, at least according to the criteria of most overseas organisations. That's a scary thought!

And now I think I need a break from writing for a little while. Do some reading. Relax. Maybe sleep a little.

Sleep would be nice...

So, after comments from a few readers (including [livejournal.com profile] mikandra, thanks!), I've changed the story yet again. Not much textually, but the structure has transmogrified once more. I'm not even going to try and describe it this time. Now I just have to rewrite the text a bit to suit the new format, try to make it... better than it is... and then send it off. Maybe.

I swear, I've put more work into this one story than I do into most novel drafts. *twitch* It's going to be a relief to get working on something else at last! Anything else!

Note to self - if having trouble completing a story, tell yourself you've given up on it. That'll kick you into gear.

First draft of the new version of "Cold Heart" is complete. It's a complete mess, yes, but it's complete nonetheless. It's something I can work on.

Hopefully this will allow me to sleep properly tonight, for the first time in weeks!

I quit!

The hell with this! This rotten, stupid story for Haunted Legends just ain't worth the pain and suffering I've expended upon its jagged, icy, unyielding surface. I've beaten my head against it for weeks now, and all I've gotten is a headache.

Sod it. I give up.

Shh... this is a ploy to make me write the story after all. It worked with "The Dead Priest's Tale" for Canterbury 2100. Of course, that time it wasn't intentional. But maybe I can fool myself? As long as I don't actually read this bit I'm writing now... hang on, I think I can see a fatal flaw in my plan...

Bugger...
