Take three...
So, after comments from a few readers (including ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
mikandra, thanks!), I've changed the story yet again. Not much textually, but the structure has transmogrified once more. I'm not even going to try and describe it this time. Now I just have to rewrite the text a bit to suit the new format, try to make it... better than it is... and then send it off. Maybe.
I swear, I've put more work into this one story than I do into most novel drafts. *twitch* It's going to be a relief to get working on something else at last! Anything else!

For me, I usually do at least two drafts, but you're right, I never spend much time on short stories either. My personal experience is that if I can't get the story to work within two drafts, it's never gonna work, but I've heard of people having done 6 or 7 drafts of short stories. Eeeekks!
