martinlivingsYou know, when writing a story for a competition, it's usually a good idea to read the criteria quite closely. Example - the AHWA Halloween competition. I skimmed the criteria... yeah, Halloween, 250 words, blah blah blah, and wrote a couple of stories for it.
I just polished up the one I wanted to send, and was about to send it when something in the instructions caught my eye:
The prize will be awarded to the entry which is judged to be the best opening to a Halloween-inspired tale.
Opening?
OPENING????
Damn, I wrote a complete Halloween tale for it! Doh!
Back to the drawing board... hmm, I wonder if Shadowed Realms would like it? ;)
